Creative Hands Gallery

Cynthia Buckley

Ever since I was a child, I have loved to draw and paint and as an adult started to collect antique glass. Combining my love for art and glass took me to the Diablo Glass School in Boston, which is affiliated with the Museum of Fine Arts and Massachusetts College of Art. After taking classes at Diablo in beginning and advanced stained glass, I started working with glass and set up my own studio on Cape Cod.

Over the years, I have taken classes in many other forms of glasswork including glass blowing, fusing, flameworking, glass sculpture, etching and sandblasting.  These classes have been at Diablo, Snow Farm, The New England Craft Program, Whittemore-Durgin Glass and at the Studios at the Corning Museum. Continuing to learn more about the medium of glass has not only added to my own work but also given me a greater appreciation of the work of other glass artists.

I design and handcraft each piece that I create using the Tiffany Copper Foil Method. I rarely use a pattern but instead draw out an original design, pull the types and colors of glass I want to use and then, as I create a piece, will sometimes change the design or glass.

On Cape Cod, I was an Artist Member of the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Cape Cod Art Association, Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Sandwich Arts Alliance, Falmouth Artist Guild and the Fuller Craft Museum, where I was also a Stained Glass Instructor.  I was also a member of the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce.  I have been featured on several television and online video programs including the Cape Cod Visitors Network, Sandwich Chamber of Commerce “Spotlight” and Sandwich Community Television “I’m Sandwich Local”.

My work has been exhibited at the Wellfleet “Emerging Artists” Exhibition, Cape Cod Art Association, Sandwich Public Library and I was selected as a Glass Artisan Demonstrator for “Arts in Action” for the Town of Sandwich which is now presented annually by the Sandwich Arts Alliance.  I have also participated in many juried artisan shows, exhibits and festivals.  My work was available for purchase at the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Cape Cod Art Association and at several local galleries.

Here in South Carolina, I am a member of the Beaufort Art Association and my work has been exhibited at its satellite galleries as well as the Port Royal Sound Maritime Museum.
